Colombia Sin Fronteras

Hello everyone! As some of you may or may not know, I am moving to Colombia for a couple months to help lead a literacy program for children up to the age of 14. These children live in extreme poverty leading to malnutrition which can lead to chronic diseases and sometimes mortality. The children have low levels of literacy and many suffer physical or emotional abuse in their home backgrounds. They can be quite demanding, and while they need affection, they also have a need for authoritative figures.

During the past few days I have been buying some school supplies for the children. I know that Digital Hope did a GREAT contribution to the organization and it brought me to tears when I saw it. They "use the power of the social web to change the lives of people in need around the world". Within only 24 hours, they managed to raise a total of $2,248! Amazing. They uploaded a video on the internet and asked for donations and after the 24 hours they purchased as much supplies as possible.

They went to the local store and bought notebooks, pencils, crayons and much more that the teachers found necessary to sustain the children's education. I am also taking pencils, crayons, paper, games, stickers, play-doh and even a jar full of marbles! Once I am there I am going to purchase more supplies in larger quantity.

I also want to thank my amazing co-workers so so so so much. They are a great group of individuals who I will miss very much while I am there. They all came together and raised some money for me to also use as a donation to buy supplies for the children. I will definitely use it wisely. A million times thanks guys!
